- ---------------------------
-
- Once again comes another version of Online Tic-Tac-Toe for FirstClass™
- Bulletin Board Systems. Online Tic-Tac-Toe is a handy game for these systems,
- I think, and I'm sure your users will somewhat enjoy it.
-
- If you are a user of a system, please pass this on to your Admin, or if you're
- the Admin, read on...
-
- Disclaimer:
- -----------
-
- Quick and Simple:
-
- Use it at your own risk, as any programmer will say, any damage done isn't our
- fault. That's basically it :)
-
-
- New Features
- ------------
- Online Tic-Tac-Toe v2.0 has some interesting features, including:
-
- • Full color interface, yet appears fine in black & white
- • New Icon for a "Tic-Tac-Toe" folder online
- • Fixes in the updater
- • Three Separate Updaters for different versions
- • Meant to update a client running ANY version of Online Tic-Tac-Toe, or none
- at all!
- • And more!
-
- Hmmm... doesn't look like quite much there, does it? Well, don't worry... you
- will notice the changes online!
-
-
- About This Release
- ------------------
-
- Online Tic-Tac-Toe, version 2.0 is ©1994, Charles DeLauder. It is meant for
- installation into a FirstClass™ settings file to allow an online game.
-
- This version has been ready for the past few weeks, but I apologize. When I
- was ready to release it at first, there was a problem with the board that I
- usually first release it to, Rad Insp BBS (301) 309-1808, and I felt that I
- should wait for some reason. I decided to release it today, 11/6/94.
-
- I figured now that it's time for the release, even though problems are still
- occuring there. My apologies to all who have been waiting.
-
-
- Installing
- ----------
-
- On the Client side...
-
- If you are running a settings file with version 1.0 installed, select the
- updater "Tic-Tac-Toe 1.0 => 2.0", and double-click. Select patch, and find
- your settings file. Your file will be updated to version 2.0 and your done.
-
- If you are running a settings file with version 1.01 installed, select the
- updater "Tic-Tac-Toe 1.01 => 2.0", and double-click. Select patch, and find
- your settings file. Your file will be updated to version 2.0 and you are done.
-
- If you are running a settings file that has never had any version of Online
- Tic-Tac-Toe installed, then select the updater "Online Tic-Tac-Toe 2.0", and
- double-click. Select patch, and find your settings file. Your file will now
- have version 2.0 installed, ready to go.
-
- Note that the patches DO NOT in any way alter any code. They just plug in the
- necessary resources to run the game, or in the case that you had a previous
- version installed, they swap with the old resources... your file should not be
- damaged, but please view the disclaimer and note it.
-
- On the Admin/Server side...
-
- •• Note: If you installed version 1.0 or 1.01, no changes in the game
- appearance is necessary. Just change the icons on the "Tic-Tac-Toe" folders
- to the new icon for Online Tic-Tac-Toe, new to this release.
-
- On your board, create a new conference called "Online Tic-Tac-Toe." With
- Online Tic-Tac-Toe, you can have a number of seperate game boards set up.
- Inside of the conference, create new folders, one for every separate
- Tic-Tac-Toe game board that you want online. Name them all "Tic-Tac-Toe",
- and change their icons via the "Get Info..." to the new Online Tic-Tac-Toe
- icon, new to version 2.0.
-
- Inside of each "Tic-Tac-Toe" folder, you now see the Online Tic-Tac-Toe
- board. To the right hand side, make 10 new folders. Change all of their
- names so that the names are blank.
-
- Give 5 of the folders an "X" icon via "Get Info..." and the other 5 the
- "O" icon, both included in the package. (Already installed in your settings
- file once it's been updated) Put the X's on one end of the screen, and the
- O's on the other, like this:
-
- GAMEBOARD X X X
- GAMEBOARD X X
- GAMEBOARD @
- GAMEBOARD
- GAMEBOARD O O O
- GAMEBOARD O O
-
- Create a folder called "Your Turn!", or something like that, on one of the
- sides (either "X" or "O"). (An example is marked "@" in the above diagram)
-
- And the Online Installation is complete! READ ON!
-
-
-
- Playing The Game
- ----------------
-
- To play, the Administrator should set up a conference where you can
- "advertize" for a player. When two played are found, they go to a board and
- play. The first player, let’s say "X" will go first. He will make his move,
- then move the "Your Turn" folder to the opponent’s side. I recommend also
- putting a chat file inside of each of the Tic-Tac-Toe folders so that the
- players know when it’s their turn instead of opening and shutting and
- reopening the conference, etc.
-
- Unfortunately, because of the nature of FirstClass™, live action isn't
- really possible. That's a design flaw, probably soon to be resolved by
- FirstClass™, which would then probably make this game obsolete. But hey,
- it's a game, and fairly fun I'd say.
-
-
- Shareware
- ---------
-
- Alas, I've put a lot of effort into all of my programming, and I usually do
- it just to make the Macintosh population in general have, in the case of this
- program, some more fun.
-
- I can't really do it alone. I'd really like some better equipment, though I've
- just about upgraded this computer to it's limit. I can always use the extra
- money, and I'm asking that you please send a small shareware fee of $2.00, as
- the Administrator. It isn't necessary for the users to pay; the board itself
- just pays. Please consider.
